If you go beyond the groomed trails and ski resort runs, you should know about avalanche hazards. Learn to recognize avalanche terrain and conditions, understand safe travel practices, and what to do if an avalanche occurs. All courses start with either a full-day or two evenings of classroom theory, followed by a field trip. The field day takes place at Fortress Mountain or at Bow Summit in Banff National Park.
No previous backcountry experience is necessary to register. You must bring snowshoes, telemark or alpine touring skis, split snowboards or snowboard approach skis.
Includes: the Avaluator™ package, use of an avalanche transceiver, course book, and AST Level 1 certificate. This course meets the Canadian Avalanche Association guidelines for Avalanche Skills Training Level 1.
