Throughout the summer, the Outdoor Centre will offer a variety of scenic weekend trips and extended canoe tours. Many explore some of the best heritage rivers in western Canada. Beginner Canoe Lessons: The ABCs

Discover the thrill of the paddle and the glide of the canoe! Learn how to paddle on a lake or river-whatever suits your style of adventure. There are two ways to get started. If you have a busy schedule, take the ABCs of Canoeing separately. If you have a weekend to spare, join our Complete Beginner Weekend.All courses include all equipment.

A: Intro to Lake Canoeing

Become comfortable with the strokes needed to stabilize, turn, and steer your canoe. Choose either a three-hour course or a full day. The full day course includes an afternoon tour where you learn about safe travel and basic rescue techniques. All courses are on the Glenmore Reservoir. >>Register Now

B: Intro to River Canoeing

Adapt your flat-water canoe skills to the flowing water of the Bow River at Bowness Eddies. Learn to easily manage the current and learn river manoeuvres. Choose from a three-hour lesson or a full-day where you'll enjoy a downstream paddle and learn about safe river travel. Prerequisite: Module A. Register Now

Complete Beginner Weekend (ABC)

The ultimate learn-to-canoe course! Basically, this course consists of the ABCs of canoeing wrapped up into one weekend. Progress from basic canoe strokes to beginner whitewater skills in a full weekend of instruction. Sunday is a river run day to practice your skills. No experience needed. $225 CAE200 >> Register Now

Solo River Canoe

Learn how to paddle a solo canoe on the lake and then take it a step further onto the river. Become an efficient paddler, have the confidence to canoe where you want and experience the freedom of going solo! The lake sessions are on the Glenmore and the river section is at the Bowness eddies on the Bow River. Prerequisite: No experience necessary but participants need to take the lake portion before the river portion.
